Gospel Reading: MT 6:1-6, 16-18

And your Father who sees in secret will repay you…

A relationship with God solely revolves around Him. For us who are surrounded with people whether in the form of our family or neighbors or relatives and friends, it is difficult to carry out our responsibilities without people’s involvement and appreciation. Human appreciation and approval entices us to win peoples favor but in today’s Gospel the Lord teaches us to desist from such actions.

We often bring this nature into our relationship with Jesus assuming that people’s awareness of our religiosity is acceptable to God. Jesus is no birthday cake which we eat of a little and then leave the rest to share with the crowd around us. Either we have Him completely or don’t have any of Him at all. Jesus makes Himself available to us in His fullness so that we receive Him in fullness and not in bits and pieces.

The one hungry and thirsty for divine love will not tolerate any bit of loss. An uncompromising yearning for Jesus in a man-God relationship, delights the heavenly Father.

Are we daring to do away with other people’s thoughts and feelings about us to focus only on Jesus and what He seeks of us? If yes we will surely receive a blessing from the one who is watching us in secret.
