Gospel Reading: MT 28:8-15

"And behold, Jesus met them on their way and greeted them.
They approached, embraced his feet, and did him homage." (Mt 28:9)

The resurrected Lord, who had overcome the world, was no longer subject to the powers of the physical world. He had resumed His work soon after His resurrection and that is what we read in today’s Gospel.

Meanwhile, unable to fathom what had happened to the body of Jesus the elders and chief priests are looking for ways to cover up their failure to hold Jesus’ dead body under their supervision.

If only they knew that it was no mere man that they were dealing with but God Himself, for the likes of Mary Magdalene and the other Mary who knew the Lord, it was yet another moment to rejoice in.

How often in our present day life do we switch sides between the nature of the faith filled disciples of Jesus and the faithless chief priests in Jerusalem?

We have misused our freedom and have leaned on a spirituality of convenience that we put to use according to the temperament of our momentary needs. No wonder we too in these times, cannot fathom like the chief priests, the ability of the Lord to be present amidst us.
